The Future Generation Joint Venture Snowy Hydro 2.0 is a pumped hydro project that will increase the generation capacity of the Snowy Mountains Scheme by up to 2,000MW and at full capacity will provide approximately 350,000MW/h of energy storage. The project will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world and underscores the importance of the Snowy Scheme’s role in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The project includes all activities associated with the requirements for the Snowy 2.0 Pumped Hydro-electric Scheme, including construction of intake and outlet structures at both Tantangara and Talbingo Reservoirs, which are in the Kosciusko National Park (KNP) in southern NSW.

Whittens have been engaged to complete the excavation works at Talbingo to facilitate construction of the Adit Portal including Service Pad. A significant amount of open excavation was required on the entire project. The scope of works covers the open excavation of Tantangara intake, minor cofferdam, and access road.

The scope of work includes:

  • Assembling and erection of accommodation modular buildings.
  • All building assembly works including roofs, framing, walkways, internal walls, flashings, fire proofing, ceilings, external stairs and co-ordinate with service installers.
  • Co-ordinate service connections and internal reticulation including fire, water, sewer and electrical.
  • Co-ordinate the other contractors who shall place services within the buildings.
