Whittens, having engaged with their Client throughout the tendering process, successfully secured the civil concrete packages on the TAN Burrup project. This project, located on the Burrup Peninsula approximately 13 kilometres northwest of Karratha, Western Australia, consisted of the construction of a TAN production facility, manufacturing and supplying TAN (Technical Ammonium Nitrate) to the Australian mining industry. The plant has an annual capacity of 330,000 tonnes, with a life span of 20 years +.

Whittens was engaged to execute the concrete civils component of the plant, comprising of the ISBL, OSBL pipe rack foundations, wet and dry process structures, and nitrate process and storage facilities. The scope of work awarded to Whittens totalled some 18,000m3 of concrete, and included the steel reinforcing supply and fix, formwork supply, design and install, and concrete supply, pumping, placement, curing and testing. Utilising an 85 man team, consisting entirely of direct Whittens employees, Whittens has again produced quality workmanship whilst maintaining its enviable safety record.
